Today is the Day New Website Revealed!!! You can Win this “Cherie Limoge” by Connie Zink

Cherie Limoge

Well, today is the day I am introducing you to my new website landofozdolls.net. If you read my two previous blog posts here on the website you will have a little bit better understanding as to why this website has came about. As a celebration of my new website I will be starting my “Summer Doll Giveaway” Promotion! This is not the first time I have given a doll away in the past year and it won’t be the last. I have been blessed with such joy, watching the winners of the dolls learn that they have won, and also have greatly appreciated the photos submitted from the lucky new mamans. I will share the winners of the last several promotions with you soon in an upcoming post. The rules are different for this “Summer Doll Giveaway Promotion” than what it has been from the previous “Giveaways”. This time I need to promote the establishment of this new website before I discontinue the use of my other websites. So the rules this time are pretty simple. There is a box on the right hand side of this page where you can subscribe to my posts by email. From this subscriber list, the winner of this beautiful “Cherie Limoge” Bleuette “Friend” will be chosen. You only need to enter your email address, hit the subscribe button, then you will be sent a confirmation email. Once confirmed, you are entered in the drawing. This is the only way you can enter the promotion this time. Everyone is only allowed the one entry. Now, let me introduce you to “Cherie Limoge” by Connie Zink. “Cherie Limoge” will go to the lucky winner at 10:00 PM Sunday night, September 8th 2013. She comes complete with wooden base doll stand, underwear, shoes and socks, and her one-piece navy blue and white striped dress and blue jacket (jacket included because the evenings will be cooler by then). She also has a lovely little patriotic basket included with her. Total value: $350.00.

It’s Almost Ready!!!

I would like to say hi to everyone, but right at the moment that is a little difficult because I don’t have any subscribers to say hi to. I haven’t yet announced the beginning of my new website and blog. Almost there, but not quite yet. It has been four days now since I started the creation of this website and it has been a long four days. The first night I was still up at 4:00 am working on this thing. When Dennis got up to get ready for work, I know he thought I was crazy! I went to bed for a few hours and was back up by 8:00 am and worked on it all day and evening. I find this whole set-up thing fascinating. Never had a clue I would ever be able be able to set-up my own website, but I am really enjoying it!! I can honestly say, I have done the whole thing myself up until this afternoon when one of my student’s sons came and helped me for awhile fix some of my glitches I was having. I learned a lot this afternoon, thanks Tory!!!! I have tons of photos to upload yet but one of the cool things that we installed today was my photo albums on Picasa Web Albums. Now with one click from my side bar, it will take you directly to all of my photo albums I have there. I also have the Facebook feed up and working so you can access my Land of Oz Dolls Facebook page also. My Twitter account is also there, (I have had the thing for ages but haven’t used it but I guess now is the time)! I have been working on uploading photos to the various pages and have set up a page for “Nature Photography by Connie”. No, there isn’t any dolls on that page, but many of my customers are also fans of my bird photos I post on Facebook. So I thought I would add them to this website also. Within the next day or so, I am hoping to get the announcement up for my “Summertime Doll Giveaway”. I have a Cherie Limoge “Bleuette Friend” I will be giving away in September. Rules for entry will be announced soon. Until then, have a great weekend and enjoy some dolly time or maybe even check out some of that nature that surrounds us!

Welcome to Land of Oz Dolls

Doll Room

Welcome to Land of Oz Dolls new website and blog!. My name is Connie Zink and I have owned and operated Land of Oz Dolls in Savanna, Illinois since January of 1979. My original website has needed updating for many years now. My daughter Stacie, built it for me years ago when she worked for me full-time. Since then Stacie has gone on to pursue other career options, and has no extra time to completely update my dinosaur of a website, so that leaves me trying to figure out what in the world to do with that thing. (Not a whole lot of computer experience here building websites.) My friend Jan also started me a second website about five or six years ago and honestly it is also in desperate need of updating, something I have needed to do for several years now. So I have decided the easiest way to do this is going to be to start all over, all by myself and figure this thing out. I will never be able to keep a website updated unless I learn to do it myself, so here goes. Eventually my other two websites, www.landofozdolls.com and www.landofozdolls2.com will be phased out. But, that is going to take awhile as I learn to build this new website www.landofozdolls.net.

Land of Oz Dolls is home to my museum quality antique reproduction and modern dolls. I started making dolls in 1978, while taking classes from a teacher in Clinton, Ia. After a year of weekly classes, I decided this was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I opened a studio in my basement in January of 1979. Now 34 years later, my shop and studio is a 2800 square foot, two story building, connected to my house. My husband Dennis and I also have a one and a half car garage completely full of doll molds along with a 600 square foot storage building for doll molds, attached to the shop. A current soft-fired greenware catalog for the hundreds of antique reproduction and modern dolls available is still being put together. (Another very slow process)

On May 14th 2012, we had a devasting fire that destroyed the storage unit for molds we had used for over 20 years. Molds for over 2000 different dolls were lost. It has been a long tedious year, trying to put our mold inventory back together. The replacements are now housed here on our property with us. (No more off premises storage units). Thanks to so many wonderful customers and friends who were willing to part with their mold collections, we have been able to replace many of the treasured molds we lost. The difficult task now is trying to put an accurate soft-fired greenware catalog back together. I want to thank all of you who have been so patient during our struggles. It will still be sometime yet before I can get a catalog together so please just email me if you have questions as to what soft-fired greenware is currently available. My email address currently for orders is landofozdolls@mchsi.com or you may phone me at 815-565-0024.

Well, I think it is time to close for now, it is well after midnight. It is kind of exciting, embarking on this new adventure of rebuilding my website. Before closing,  I think I will try to figure out how to post my first image. If when you read this, there is no photo, you will know I didn’t figure it out yet. If there is a photo, you will know I will be adding tons more images for you to view in the future. My second love, after making dolls, is photographing dolls so there will be lots of photos forthcoming!! I am looking forward to visiting with you again soon.
